cool looking fan controller. finally, a decent use for the stock cd cover! and that's a REALLY big fan... what heatsink is that on? xp120? what fan?

what's the overall idea for this project?

Thanks for the comments guys! The cooler is a Thermalright XP-120 with a Panaflo M1A on it. The fan is larger than normal and has a depth of 38mm as opposed to the standard 25mm. The fan contoller idea came from my brother who has always wanted me to do a steathed controller because the knobs look silly sticking out the front of the case. I should take a pic of the mods I made to the controller to make it fit like that. I think I am also going to do the same thing to my card reader. It looks horrible right now in the 3.5"-5.25" bay adapter.

As for the overall plan, I completely forgot to post that in my opening post. Anyway, the case is inspired by the symbol of my fraternity, The Phoenix. I have always named my computer Phoenix because of this and because it gets rebuilt or a new case-mod every year. This iteration of Phoenix is dubbed Flame. The color scheme is black and red. The side panels are where most of the work is going to be done, I plan on having a cut out with flames and a Phoenix rising from the ashes. The hard part will be getting the lighting done correctly so that it looks really cool in the dark. I actually have my computer running in the case now as most of the internal stuff is done. I'll get more pictures soon!!

Love the fan controller, I did pretty much the same thing but scrapped it a few days later 'cause it was such a pain in the ass to access when I tried to open the cover... How do you open it with the 5.25 bay installed on top of it? Took me about 5 minutes to open mine every time I wanted to change my fan speeds.

Very nicely done! Can't wait to see the finished work!

It looks like you have a good plan and I cant wait to see the finished product. I also really like the stealth fanbus.

I noticed some kind of trim around the holes that were cut for the fans in the case, it looks nice and clean, what is that trim made of?

Holy Cow!! I was totally not expecting to see this on the front page!!! I feel so honored!!

Anyway, I will get some more pics posted as soon as I get them uploaded. I have been busy getting a 20 page report finished for school. I also had a couple of problems crop up the last few days. I found out that the NV5 I had is defective and has to be returned (the copper plate is curved and does not contact the GPU core), and I had a cathode die on me. However, the cathode is not a big deal as I was not gonna keep em anyway. The color they give off is wrong. I should have my side panel design drawn up this week by my buddy and hopefully get some cuts done on it before spring break next week.

The fan controller door is spaced just right for me to open it with my nail. I even trimmed them today and had no problems with it.

The trim is from here: http://www.voyeurmods.com/index.php?action=item&id=538&prevaction=category&previd=30&prevstart=0

Thanks for all the support guys!!

Your side panel idea sounds awesome, and an image came directly to my mind. Now... don't laugh, it's just a suggestion... have you ever seen those fake fireplace log inserts, with the little rotating thing behind that makes it look like the flames are rising? I had one of those years ago, although it wasn't logs, it looked like coal, it was a good effect because it moved very slowly to imitate simmering heat. I don't know how you'd do it, but wouldn't it be great if your fames were animated? Something different from the usual cut out. Something mounted to the case bottom?

Edit:

This guy makes an LED fire simulator as part of his product. Maybe he'd sell the unit separate from the logs:
