Reimagining American Pressed Glass: The Sculptural Works of Amber Cowan
Glass is the main material that Amber Cowan uses to create her sculptures. She has over fifteen years of experience in working with glass and holds an MFA in Glass/Ceramics from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and a BFA in 3-Dimensional Design with a focus on Glass from Salisbury University.
She uses a technique that combines flameworking, blowing, and hot-sculpting to give new life to old glassware, mostly American pressed glass from the 1940’s to the 1980’s. She finds the glass in places where it has been discarded, such as thrift stores, flea markets and factory leftovers.
